Keizer might be Ajax’ biggest mistake yet

So, we dropped points. Again. With uninspiring play for at least a half. Again. With a starting line-up that didn’t make sense. Again. With substitutions we didn’t quite understand. Again. While Peter Bosz is the unbeaten leader of the Bundesliga, not having conceded a goal in the competition yet. It hurts to be an Ajax-fan right now. The way we we are currently playing, we are headed for 4th. Maybe. That’s worrying.

Peter Bosz started very sloppy as well, but Marcel Keizer is not showing any sign of being a good appointment. We have not been able to play more than 45 minutes of decent football in a row, with huge declines against Nice, PEC, Groningen, VVV and now ADO again. When something is this constantly disappointing, time and time again, without anything changing, you have a real problem on your hands.

His constant refusal to change the side on the positions that have failed time and time again, the complete lack of trust in players like David Neres and the refusal to use new players like Maximilian Wöber, Luis Orejuela and god forbid Siem de Jong, due to them ‘needing time to adapt’ is infuriatingly annoying. However, that’s not Keizer’s biggest problem at the moment.

Bosz did some incredibly stupid things in his first months in charge. He made some horrible mistakes, but yet, he got so much more credit than Keizer. I actually wrote something about why we should keep supporting him, so why am I now seriously worried about what Keizer has to offer for Ajax? The difference lies in the fact that he has not anything to stand on. Not one leg.

When we appointed Keizer, we were all pointing to the fact he made Jong Ajax play incredibly well, finishing 2nd in the Jupiler League. However, we now know this is something he didn’t do that much about, since Michael Reiziger is now leading the league, without the talents of Frenkie de Jong. Donny van de Beek and – sadly – Abdelhak Nouri to rely on. Without these achievements, Keizer suddenly is only a coach who once relegated with Cambuur and didn’t excel at FC Emmen.

Which means he could be the biggest mistake the completely incompetent Ajax-board ever made.

I’m willing to give him some more time, and he might just surprise me – I’m no prophet. However, he has done nothing so far to win my trust and gain some credits. And that worries the shit out of me.
