Huntelaar Returns to Amsterdam

A tweet from the official Ajax Twitter, and a post on the official Facebook page have just confirmed that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will be returning to Ajax this summer.

The 2006 Ajax Player of the Year left the Amsterdammers in 2009 to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

There has been non-stop speculation that the striker would rejoin Ajax since the start of the 16/17 season, with his contract with Schalke 04 coming to an end this year.

How the striker will fit into the squad awaits to be seen, but as an experienced player it’s a certain boost to the strength of the team for the 17/18 season.

Welcome back, Klaas-Jan!

UPDATE: According to De Telegraaf, Mateo Cassierra is likely to be loaned out for the season due to the return of Huntelaar. Also, the official Ajax fan-shop has Huntelaar listed as having shirt number 9. As to whether or not this means he will be a first team player, and potentially unseat Kasper Dolberg, is not yet known.
