Ajax have reached an agreement with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur on the transfer of Davinson Sánchez. The Amsterdammers receive €40 million plus a possible €2 million in bonus payments for the central defender.
The transfer fee paid for Sánchez – who arrived in Amsterdam from Atlético Nacional for €5 million last summer – is an Ajax and Eredivisie record, surpassing the €34 million Manchester United spent to buy Memphis Depay from PSV.
The Colombian is delighted with his move to England: “I would like to thank the coach, management, players and fans of Ajax. It is a great move for me to come here to develop my career. I am very excited to be signing for such a famous club as Tottenham Hotspur. I am looking forward to working with Mauricio Pochettino and the players and meeting everyone there.”
Sánchez made 47 official appearances for Ajax, scoring seven goals in the process.
